昨天讀到 "Ten lies and ten truths" 時看到...

It was disclosed that the company had been "cooking the books" to report fictitious profits for at least eight quarters.
(這間公司被揭露做假帳虛報盈收至少有八季之久)

所以  cook the books 就是做假帳的意思.
