天地不仁,以萬物爲芻狗;聖人不仁,以百姓爲芻狗。天地之間,其猶橐籥乎?虛而不屈,動而愈出。多言數窮,不如守中。
帛書(校):
天地不仁,以萬物爲芻狗;聖人不仁,以百姓爲芻狗。天地之間,其猶橐籥與?虛而不淈,動而俞出。多聞數窮,不若守於中。
註:
天地不仁,以萬物爲芻狗 -- 不是指天地沒有仁心,把萬物當祭祀用的草紮芻狗,用完即丟。而是不以仁心的角度看待世界,讓萬物依其用處及歸處,順應自然地發展。
橐籥:唸成陀月,比喻風箱。
