無形的

今天看書時看到下面這兩個句字,

...They had what money cannot buy. They had and still have the intangible traits that everyone can acquire.

突然想來比較一下intangible 與 invisible 這兩個字.

這兩個字都有無形的, 看不見的, 的意思. 但卻有一些差異.

intangible 是無形的, 觸摸不到的, 難以捉摸/形容的.

invisible 則是指(眼睛)看不到的, 隱形的.

句子裡用intangible 來形容traits (intangible traits 無形的特質), 特質這東西看不到也觸不到, 但感受得到. 所以用 intangible 而不用 invisible 來形容一個人的特質. 但 invisible 有個特殊用法是用在經濟,金融上.

比如...
Tourism brings in 40 percent of the country's invisible earnings.
(旅遊業為該國帶來了40% 的無形收入.)

除了可以形容特質(traits) , intangible 也常用來形容 assets (資產),
專利, 版權, 商標, 公司標誌等都屬於無形資產(intangible assets).

順便看一下第一句 They had what money cannot buy. 中的 "cannot".
cannot 的縮寫是can't, can't 通常用在日常口語上以及較不正式的書寫上. 如果是較正式的書寫記得用 cannot. (cannot 也適用在口語上)

最後, 最好不要用can not 來取代cannot, 沒有為什麼, 就是不要用can not. (如果你要表達的意思是cannot 的話.) 而且何必咧?  cannot 比can not 少了一個空格, 少打一個空隔不是更簡單嗎?
