writing for free’ 提到在書寫時應該避免用“for free”。雖然它是個沿用已久的慣用語，也常常在廣告中聽到或看到，但在正式書寫時還是避免較好。
Free可當形容詞，副詞及動詞，但它從來就不是名詞，所以不能當介系詞 for 的受詞，這也是為什麼老派文法擁護者堅持反對用 for free。
那該用什麼來表示免費呢？
你可以用 for nothing, without charge, at no cost, 甚至只單用 free（副詞）即可。
